To turn layers on/off, click the 'Layer/Legend' menu button. This will open a window that displays the current layers that can be toggled.
A basemap is the back ground map on which the infomation layers are displayed. To change the basemap, click the 'Basemaps' dropdown menu, then select the desired basemap. (The 'Simpson Imagery 2013' was taken in Feb 2013 and only covers the Ranking County Area)
To identify features on the map, simply left click on the feature. Features have to be turn on in order to be identified. You may have to zoom in closer for some features to appear.
To zoom in/out of the map, you may do the following: roll your mousewheel, double click on the map, use the +/- arrows, or hold the shift key and left click to draw a zoom window. If on a mobile device, you may double tap or use the 'pinch' zoom method common to cell phones.
To generate a PDF of the current map view, click the Print Button . This will open another window which allows you to enter a title and author of the map. You may also select a template (ie. layout) to use during the PDF generation. Once you have entered your desired information, click submit. This will open another window to confirm the generation process has begun. You may close this window and continue interacting with the map while you wait. The PDF will open once it finishes (process typically takes less than 20 seconds).
If the map does not open in a new window, confirm you have your browsers pop-ups enabled.
To draw graphics on the map (ie. an arrow highlighting some important park feature), click the 'Draw' dropdown menu and select the desired graphic. For point features, simply left click to add the point (you may use 'Multi Point' to add numerous points in a row. For line features, click on the map for a starting and an ending point. The polyline option allows you to add numerous 'nodes' in the line segment (ie. trace a road or a route). For the 'Freehand Line' method, left click and drag the mouse along the desired path of the line. For the polygon graphics, ensure you add atleast three points before double left clicking to close the polygon. Or you may use the 'Freehand Polygon' method in the say manner as the 'Freehand Line'.
The measure or area calculation utility is built into these draw functions (except "Arrow" or "Triangle," which do not calculate geometry). After you draw your desired graphic, the measure outcome will be displayed within the graphic (ie. distance for lines, acres for polygons, or latitude/longitude for points). If you mess up during the drawing process, you may select the 'Undo' or 'Redo' buttons under the draw tools menu. You will have to select 'Undo' or 'Redo' twice if the graphic was one that writes length, area, or coordinate onto the map (this is due to the text and the graphic being their own graphics). To clear all the map graphics, simply click 'Clear' under the Draw tools menu or press the clear button .
To add Text to your map press the T button . The size and color of the font can be altered. Once the submit button has been pressed click on the map where the text should be added. The 'Undo' or 'Redo' buttons under the draw tools menu can be used with this tool as well as the 'Clear' option under the Draw tools menu or the clear button
This button activates a Measure toolbar. Three buttons allow you to measure an area, line or point. The units of the measurement can also be altered with this tool. Choose a tool and click once on the map to start the measurement. Click once in another location for the next measurement. This can be repeated several times. To finish the measurement double click on the final point of the measurement. The tool must be deactivated when it is not required again. To deactivate the tool make sure none of the measurement tools are selected. Then close the tool by pressing the button again
There are two functions for searching. The button launches a windows which provides the ability to search any parcel. The 'Find a place' text box provides the ability to search any address in the USA. The more information provided the more accurate the search will be.
